How to write a content warning
Many topics can be unsettling for our community. In order to reduce the potential of surprising your readers with content that might be unsettling to them, you can include a Content Warning in your story. This is especially important if you’re writing Mature content, which you can learn more about here.
1. Be upfront
Tell your readers what sensitive topics will appear in your story on the Story Details Page.
2. Remind them again
Insert a Content Warning directly before the sensitive story part. Here is an example of what a Content Warning can sound like:
Content Warning: _______ (topic). If you require support on any of these topics, please check out this article.
3. Tell them when it’s over
Indicate where the sensitive story part ends, directly after the sensitive story part. This can sound like:
End of Content Warning
4. Be consistent
Make sure to include content specific warnings before and after all sensitive content.
Please ensure that you have read our Content Guidelines so that the sensitive topics in your story are not violations.
